The PhD candidate in Philosophy of Physics will be supervised by Kian Salimkhani with Klaas Landsman and Henk de Regt as promotors. The project should be about philosophical issues in effective (field) theories, like models and representation, fundamentality and emergence, realism, and explanation and understanding.

The PhD candidate in Mathematical Physics will be supervised by Manus Visser with Klaas Landsman as promotor. The project is about black holes and especially horizon entropy, using techniques ranging from thermodynamics to holography and (algebraic) quantum field theory. This project also has a clear conceptual and philosophical angle.

The PhD candidates will be part of the new Radboud Centre for Natural Philosophy, an interdisciplinary centre across mathematical physics, theoretical physics, philosophy of science, and history of science.
