Doctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d) in the Philosophy and Methodology of Economics

(Salary Scale 13 TV-L “FwN”, 65 %)

The Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences (CELLS) invites applications for the position of a Doctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d) in the Philosophy and Methodology of Economics (Salary Scale 13 TV-L “FwN”, 65 %) starting as soon as possible. The duration of the position is 4 years.

Responsibilities and tasks

You will pursue a PhD research project within the ERC-funded project ‘Managing Performative Science’ (MAPS; a summary of the project can be found here). You will write a dissertation investigating performativity and its changing roles in economics from a philosophical and methodological perspective. The project will distinguish different kinds of performativity, especially with regard to economic theory, and their epistemic and/or ethical implications will be explored.

You will present your research at conferences and workshops and publish results in peer-reviewed journals or as a monograph. You will also collaborate with CELLS on research coordination and will be involved in the organization of project-related conferences and workshops, and in the project communication and social media.

This position requires a regular presence in Hannover, Germany. There is a partial possibility of mobile working.

Required competencies

  • You have obtained a university science degree (M.A., M.Sc.) in philosophy or in another field relevant to the research project
  • You have a clear interest in PPE and possess knowledge of key issues and tools/methods for tackling these issues
  • Passionate about pursuing research within the MAPS project
  • Independent and professional way of working
  • Open-mindedness towards interdisciplinary cooperation
  • Strong communication skills, ability to cooperate and work in a team as well as good IT skills
  • Excellent English-language skills in spoken and written
